Bola Tinubu of the All Progressive Congress has promised to overhaul the Nigerian Police Force to increase its effectiveness if elected president the following year.

Adding that the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps personnel would take their position, he pledged to relieve police officers of their responsibilities acting as bodyguards or orderlies for Very Important Persons.

This was in the manifesto, which The PUNCH exclusively got on Friday.

The PUNCH reported that national security, economics, agriculture, electricity, oil and gas, transportation, and education were at the top of his priority lists for action plans.

The 80-page paper, titled “Renewed Hope 2023 – Action Plan for a Better Nigeria,” included multi-sectoral policy alternatives.

Regarding police reform, Tinubu stated: [“We would increase recruiting and provide high-tech, non-lethal equipment with appropriate manpower development programmes in order to increase public trust in the Nigeria Police Force and other internal security services.

The goal of police reform is to better equip the agency to carry out its core responsibilities of community policing and upholding law and order by combating and preventing crime.
