President: Barcelona must defeat Real Madrid in the Champions League

Xavi Hernandez is being publicly handled by Barcelona president Joan Laporta, who has also urged him to defeat Real Madrid on Sunday.

The Catalans are having trouble in the Champions League despite having an undefeated start to the LaLiga season after drawing 3-3 with Inter in midweek.

Barca is now in third place and in risk of being eliminated from the Champions League.

When they travel to Madrid for the inaugural Clasico of the season, they will face another challenging test.

Laporta nonetheless stated to Barca TV:

After games, I always speak with him in his office. I saw him to be sorrowful and moved, but he is honorable.

“He always sees the bright side when we are facing a challenge… He has my whole trust. A successful outcome on Sunday will benefit the group.

At the top of the standings, Barcelona and Madrid are tied on points going into their matchup at the Santiago Bernabeu.

After eight games, neither team has lost, winning seven and drawing one.
