Cristiano Ronaldo will only be allowed back join the Manchester United squad this week with two restrictions, according to manager Erik ten Hag.

The Athletic claims that Ronaldo must accept his diminished position on the team and show “contrition” following last week’s actions.

The 37-year-old refused Ten Hag’s request to replace him during Wednesday’s 2-0 victory against Tottenham.

Instead, he sprinted out of Old Trafford before the game was over when it was still in progress.

Ronaldo was thus left off the team for the 1-1 draw with Chelsea and barred from first-team practice.

Ronaldo will still have a part to play this season, according to Erik ten Hag, who has given his team the day off on Monday in preparation for their Europa League match on Thursday against FC Sheriff.

But the United manager wants to hear Ronaldo’s perspective on what has happened over the last five days.

If the veteran “accepts flexibility over his selection and expresses repentance” for his behavior last week, Ten Hag will let him to re-join first-team training.
