President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has received congratulations from former Chief of Army Staff Lt Gen Tukur Yusufu Buratai (retired) in honor of Nigeria’s Democracy Day.
The letter was posted on the Facebook page of the former ambassador to the Benin Republic.
“I would like to congratulate President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Nigeria’s Democracy Day celebrations in 2023. Another significant step in Nigeria’s journey to a lasting democracy is Tinubu’s election as the 16th democratically elected President of the country, he said.
He claims that in his fight to guarantee that democracy takes hold in Nigeria, Tinubu has seen it all and that his time spent fighting in the trenches in the early 1990s made him into a true democrat.
He also praised Nigerians for their tenacity in ensuring that democracy is maintained through their ballots since 1999 and reaffirmed that Tinubu’s “Renewed Hope Agenda” is a sure path to Nigeria’s greatness in all facets of national development if he is in office.
“Let me also honor Chief MKO Abiola GCFR for his sacrifice, which we are honoring today, June 12th. This demonstrates unequivocally that his sacrifice was not in vain. All democratic leaders on a national and international level should aspire to his selflessness, patriotism, and togetherness, he emphasized.
He claimed that Abiola was a prominent figure who called for the United Nations (UN) to designate June 12 as World Democracy Day each year in order to fight for reparations as atonement for the injustices committed against the black race around the world.
He stated that the international community has bestowed Chief MKO Abiola, may he rest in peace, and all supporters of democracy with a well-deserved honor.
