The Committee for the Defense of Human Rights (CDHR) in Osun State has urged labor unions to push for the state to honor the pay award agreement it signed with the federal government.
On Monday, the Osun CDHR chairman, Emmanuel Olowu, sent a letter to the leaders of the Nigerian Labor Congress (NLC), the Trade Union Congress (TUC), and the Joint Negotiation Council (JNC) including the above information.
the Federal Government and organized labor signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) that included the award of a salary of 35,000 Naira (35,000) to all Federal Civil Servants.
The Osun CDHR wrote in a letter obtained by DAILY POST that they felt compelled to file an appeal so that the state could move more quickly to complete the relevant formalities and execute the wage award designed to lessen the impact of the subsidy’s elimination.
“We write to encourage you to demand from the Osun State Government, the implementation of the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) signed between the Federal Government of Nigeria, the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC), and the Trade Union Congress (TUC) on the 2nd Day Of October 2023, which includes the implementation of the Thirty-Five Thousand Naira (35,000) Wage Award by the Federal Government to all Federal Civil Service employees.
It has been brought to your attention that while other states’ chapters of your union have reached out to their respective governors, no such action has been reported from Osun state.
“We therefore charge the leadership of the union to engage the state Government on the wage award implementation and press forward the struggles for a better Nigeria,” it said.
