Sadiya Umar Farouq’s lawyer, Oladipo Okpeseyi, had previously stated that his client, the former minister of humanitarian affairs, did not decline the EFCC’s invitation.
Alleged N37 billion in fraud has prompted an investigation by the EFCC into Farouq.
The anti-graft agency reached out to the former minister in an effort to gain further insight into the matter.
Okpeseyi informed reporters that the minister was unable to accept the invitation owing to health reasons.
I went to the commission headquarters on Tuesday to send a letter requesting more time so that my client, Hajiya Sadiya Umar Farouq, who oversaw several agencies under her ministry in the previous administration, could clarify some matters at a more convenient time.
“Even though the EFCC has not officially responded, the leadership shared their understanding, and as a result, all parties involved have mutually agreed to reschedule the interview from Wednesday, January 3, 2024, to a time that the commission will determine after reviewing its schedules.”
