The 30-year-old UTC complex was demolished, according to the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA), to make room for a better complex restructure.
The structures needed to be reorganized, according to Mr. Hassan Ogbole, Deputy Director, Monitoring and Inspection, Department of Development Control, FCTA, in order to fit into a complicated shopping model needed to expand Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs).
He claimed that the structures needed to be upgraded in order to comply with modern business standards because they were flawed.
According to Ogbole, arrangements had been made for the shopkeepers and other complex residents to make easy restoration possible.
He continued by saying that the residents had received many notices, giving them adequate time to leave and permit the reconstruction to begin.
“The location is in a state of decay and is unfit for habitation or business operations.
“We must make room for a new development.
“We have given enough notices for them to remove their items, to enable us to start the work,” he added. “The firm overseeing the development has alerted the Department of Development Control, and we are here to enforce compliance.
