University of Ibadan Vice Chancellor Professor Kayode Adebowale has said that incoming freshmen have no excuse for not studying hard.
Adebowale revealed this information on Tuesday during the matriculation ceremony for the newly accepted students.
According to the TWISCOLOADED, 3,792 freshmen and sophomores across all departments were given the all-clear to participate in the 2022/2023 matriculation ceremony.
Mr. Ganiyu Saliu, the institution’s Registrar, administered the matriculation oath to the new students.
Professor Aderonke Mojisola Baiyeroju, acting on behalf of the Vice Chancellor, made clear that while the institution is a place of freedom, that freedom is constrained by norms set forth by the administration.
He urged them to be responsible with their newfound independence while at school.
Adebowale went on to say that students at universities are free to come and go as they like, with no one rushing them to be to class on time.
In addition, he cautioned that there are predetermined regulations that govern interactions within the University.
He exhorted them to learn the laws and do everything in their power to stay on the up-and-up.
You can’t use that as an excuse not to study and do well in school. The university, as was previously mentioned, is a place of freedom, albeit regulated freedom. Interactions on campus are governed by a set of norms that have been formed through time.
Find out what the rules are, and do everything in your power to always play by them and stay on the right side of the law.
“For those who will run afoul of the law, the Students Disciplinary Committee is the organ of the university through which they will be proceeded and sanctioned if found guilty of any misconduct.”
