The governor of Lagos state, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, was filmed in a video yelling obscenities at a lower-ranking military member for allegedly beating and arresting a colleague while driving against traffic in the state.
The video went viral since it showed Sanwo Olu requesting his security details in response to reports of motorcyclists who were allegedly traveling in the wrong direction.
While being dragged into the truck by security officers, one of the detained individuals informed the governor that he was a soldier.
It was clear that the governor was furious as he firmly ordered the soldier’s arrest.
“Arrest him, arrest him!” Sanw-olu yelled out in the video. Now that you’ve informed me you’re a military, I’ll have even more justification to put you in prison if you don’t take him inside your car. Go inside, you worthless dweeb! I hear you’re claiming to be a soldier.
“I am sorry, sir, I am sorry,” the soldier was heard saying.
The general staff of the army was so outraged by the governor’s remarks against the soldier that they took to the streets to voice their disapproval.
The soldiers, in two of the recordings seen by the reporter, were furious with the governor for deeming the man useless. The men insisted that the detained soldier had broken his arm fighting for the country.
A soldier whose identity was withheld in one of the films slammed the governor, expressing his frustration and said, “You are calling a soldier useless but when you want to do your dirty work you use the soldiers.”
