Osun State Security Network Agency (Amotekun Corps) has detained Banji Olaniyi Julius, a wanted man on suspicion of kidnapping and murder.
The 31-year-old is to blame for the disappearance of Damilare Akinranti, a resident of Moro in the Ife North Local Government Area of Osun State, according to the security firm.
Osun Amotekun Corps Commander Brigadier General Bashir Adewinmbi, rtd. released a statement to the press on Saturday claiming that Akinranti went missing on November 6, 2022 after being persuaded by the suspect.
The statement reads, “On November 6, 2022, at approximately 0900hrs, Banji Olaniyi Julius persuaded Damilare Akinranti, age 24, to accompany him to a farm in Iguede, Area 5, a distant farm in that same local government area; only for Damilare to get missing till date.”
When it was revealed that the suspect had taken Damilare to a farm in Iguede and not brought him back, the suspect had already fled the area. Not only has he relocated, but he also has a new cell phone number.
Adewinmbi confirmed the suspect’s detention, saying he was taken into custody at Jagun village, Irewole Local Government Area, after the family of the missing person filed a complaint against him with the Ife North Command of the Corps.
Adewinmbi, the general, stated, “Luck ran out of Banji, following a tip-off from our extensive intelligence gathering network.”
The leader of the Osun Amotekun reaffirmed that the Corps’ priority is finding and bringing to justice those responsible for criminal activity in the state.
He continued by saying that the suspect admitted to luring the missing person and many others to the same property during the years after his arrest and initial investigation.
Adewinmbi added, “The suspect, after extensive investigation, has been handed over to the National Agency for Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons and Other Related Matters (NAPTIP) for further interrogation and prosecution as the law stipulates.”
