Alan Shearer, a Newcastle United great, has urged the club against selecting Jose Mourinho as their new manager.
Mourinho is now without a job after Roma fired him last month.
Shearer supports the Portuguese strategist, but believes the Magpies should continue with Eddie Howe.
Mourinho, who has previously led Manchester United, Chelsea, and Tottenham, is reportedly considering a return to England.
Howe is under increasing pressure after four consecutive Christmas defeats against Chelsea, Luton, Nottingham Forest, and Liverpool.
However, the Magpies’ form has improved in recent weeks, with Howe’s team winning three of their past four.
Shearer believes Howe has done enough to warrant the Newcastle board’s continued support.
“He has had an amazing career, Jose,” Shearer said on the Rest Is Football podcast.
“I am not sure where he will go next. But, no, I am very pleased with Eddie Howe at Newcastle, and the work he has done and is doing.”
