Adebayor shares his championship-chasing preferences from last year

Former Togo striker Emmanuel Adebayor says he cheered for Arsenal to win the Premier League championship.

The Gunners were in first place for more than 240 days until losing the title to Manchester City in the season’s final weeks.

Adebayor, who had previously played for Arsenal before joining City in 2009, reflected on the title competition by saying, “Last season we were all rooting for them to win the league and they came very close.”

Around the months of January and February, I expressed my wish to my friends that the boys would not begin to experience a decline in performance. This was my experience while playing for Arsenal.

We’d be in first or second place, but then somebody would get hurt or be suspended around February and that would be that. They disbanded the league. We were a terrific squad, but we were young and we didn’t have a captain.
