After losing the Spanish Super Cup final 4-1 against Real Madrid, Barcelona manager Xavi Hernandez expressed his regrets to the club’s fans.

At Al-Awwal Park, Vinícius Jr. scored a hat trick in the first half and Rodrygo finished off the rout in the second half, allowing Madrid to get revenge on Barça for their loss in the final previous year.

Just before halftime, Robert Lewandowski restored a one-goal lead for Clásico, but a penalty by Vinícius ended any chance of a comeback.

“Now is the time to apologize to the fans and take the criticism in stride,” Xavi stated.

Against Madrid in particular, we failed to display the kind of performance befitting a championship game.

We lost a trophy because we were at our worst under the worst conceivable conditions today. Yes, I am accountable. We will keep pushing forward, and I take the criticism seriously.
