“ATM of the Cabal”: Shehu Sani and others call for an independent investigation against Emefiele

Senator Shehu Sani, a former politician, has stated that the investigation of the Central Bank of Nigeria, or CBN, cannot only be done expertly and comprehensively by outside auditors.

In response to President Bola Tinubu’s suspension of Godwin Emefiele, the former governor of the Apex Bank, Sani made this claim in a tweet on Saturday.

In a press release from the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Willie Bassey, Tinubu requested that the Emefiele leave the position immediately.

He was instructed to transfer control of his office to Deputy Governor (Operations Directorate) Folashodun Adebisi Shonubi, who will serve as the CBN Governor until the inquiry and banking sector reforms are complete.

Senator Sani responded by praising the president for suspending Emefiele and appointing Shonubi.

He claimed that the CBN was run “as an ATM of the cabal” and that this may prevent insiders from conducting a thorough investigation.

“The eviction of Emefiele is commendable,” states the tweet. It is admirable that Shonubi was chosen to serve as interim governor. However, the CBN’s house cleaning can only be accomplished by bringing in a group of auditors from outside the CBN.

“Only they can conduct a professional and in-depth investigation of the top Bank and inform the public of how the Bank was managed by Buhari’s Emefiele.

“The parasitic elites of the previous administration ran the CBN as an ATM for the Cabal, a canteen, and a cash cow.”
