Plans to begin night operations by the Nigeria Railway Corporation (NRC) are expected to be finalized by the second quarter of 2024.
This was revealed in a recent interview with NAN by Fidet Okhiria, the Managing Director of the NRC.
On the other hand, he stated that the main obstacle to starting night operations is insecurity.
He made it clear that night operations are a problem and that trains shouldn’t run that way. It is intended that the train run continuously. Even though most people prefer to travel during the day, we are constrained to doing so due to the country’s security situation.
The dry ports have prompted plans to resume passenger and freight trains between Port-Harcourt and Aba, Lagos and Kano, and Kaduna.
“The number of train trips on the Lagos-Ibadan, Warri-Itakpe, and Abuja-Kaduna routes will be increased to six. This means that there will be three trips to and three trips from each station, for a total of six trips per day.”
“The journeys will start before to the middle of the year 2024.’ “Across the board, they are currently running four trips—two up and two down,” Okhiria remarked.
