Edo Election: Fayemi Claims Oshiomhole Is Laying the Groundwork for Another APC Loss

Adams Oshiomhole, a senator from Edo North, has been accused by Kayode Fayemi, a former governor of Ekiti State, of plotting to undermine the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the forthcoming governorship race.

Instead of maintaining a fair playing field, Fayemi accused Oshiomhole of attempting to impose governorship candidates during the APC’s postponed primary.

During the campaign for the state’s governorship in 2020, the outgoing leader made accusations against Oshiomhole, claiming that he played a key role in the removal of Godwin Obaseki. The statement was signed by Ahmad Sajoh, the former governor’s media aide.

Oshiomhole tried to exclude some candidates from running in the primaries earlier, but Fayemi indicated that he was unsuccessful. His deceptive plot to keep Governor Godwin Obaseki out of the election process as national chairman is eerily similar to this. The APC lost Edo State as a result of that move.

Because of his unethical actions, Oshiomhole appears to have been laying the groundwork for the APC to lose the upcoming election in Edo State.

The party’s decision to reschedule and cancel the primaries, however, demonstrates its autonomy and objectivity.

For the benefit of our great party, we ask that the next primaries be held in an environment that everyone considers free and fair.

“If Oshiomhole does not want to remain impartial, he can choose to back any of the candidates. What’s important is that the process is open, free, transparent, and follows the rules.

“The APC has my full support, and we must do our best in the upcoming elections.”

Three concurrent candidates became victorious in Edo State’s primary that was later canceled.

Hope Uzodinma, governor of Imo State and head of the state’s primary election committee, proclaimed Dennis Idahosa the victor.

Ojo Babatunde, a representative from the returning officers, however, announced Sunday Dekeri’s (a member from the Etsako federal seat) victory in the primary.

The situation took a surprising turn on Monday when Senator Okpebholo of Edo Central asserted his victory with more than 6,000 votes.

The APC proclaimed the state’s primary election as inconclusive due to the dispute.

In addition, Governor Bassey Otu of Cross River State was appointed head of the primary election committee, and Thursday, February 22, 2024 was also set as the completion date for the APC primary election process.
