Genocide in Rwanda-like assaults on the plateau—governors of the north central region

On Tuesday, the governors of six states in the North Central region urged the federal government to take all necessary steps to end the violence in Plateau State once and for all.

According to the HEALTHYSPOT101, more than 150 persons were killed when armed men opened fire on 25 towns spread over three LGAs in Plateau State on Christmas Eve.

The killings on the Plateau should not be characterized as conflicts between herders and farmers, according to Abdullahi Sule, the governor of Nasarawa state and chairman of the North Central Governors’ Forum.

He drew parallels between the events in Rwanda and Plateau.

During a condolence visit to Plateau State Governor Caleb Mutfwang in Jos, Sule accompanied his colleagues.

Mohammed Bago, governor of Niger, and Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Alia, governor of Benue, accompanied him.

The assaults in Plateau, Sule bemoaned, had continued for far too long.

We must not let a small group of individuals, motivated just by their own self-interest, sneak in and wipe us out, he declared.

“The Fulani are unrelated to this. It has to do with lawbreakers, and we’re pleading with the federal government to provide us a hand.

He went on to say that they were in Jos to be with Governor Mutfwang during this difficult time.

Noting that the people of Plateau want unity and advancement, Governor Mutfwang thanked the other governors for their concern over the situation in the state.

He accused the bandits of being terrorists, kidnappers, and robbers.
