In 2023, the NDLEA apprehended 1,005 individuals and seized 13.6 metric tons of illegal drugs in Kaduna

In 2023, 1,005 individuals were apprehended and 13,623.204 kg of illicit substances were confiscated, according to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, Kaduna State Command.

During his review of the agency’s operations for the previous year, Mr. Samaila Danmalam, the state commander, revealed this information to newsmen on Friday in Kaduna.

Danmalam reported that over the last 12 months, the agency’s agents apprehended 1,005 individuals, including 965 men and 40 women, and confiscated illicit drugs with a combined weight of 13,623.204 kg, or 13.6 tons.

He mentioned that in 2023, a total of 186 illegal drug joints were busted.

Among the psychotropic substances found in the confiscated goods were cannabis sativa, cocaine, methamphetamine, tramadol, and heroin.

The command was also instrumental in the conviction of fifty-seven narcotics criminals.

“Moreover, 153 individuals were brought to justice through the filing of charges, and nineteen vehicles were seized,” expanded Danmalam.

It was his understanding that raising public consciousness about the dangers of drug misuse and trafficking was a priority for the leadership.
