INEC reverses course, announces that election results for governorships in Bayelsa, Kogi, and Imo will be sent online

The results of the governorship elections in Bayelsa, Imo, and Kogi states, scheduled for November 11, will be delivered online, according to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

At a recent news conference, Ofiong Efanga, the Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) for Bayelsa State, announced that the state would use a manual method to transmit the results of the governorship election.

While observing the mock election in Lokoja, Kogi State, INEC Chairman Prof. Mahmood Yakubu declared that anything the Bayelsa REC had said earlier should be disregarded.
According to him, this practice run is being conducted in accordance with the law, which calls for electronic accreditation and the uploading of results to the INEC Results Viewing (IReV) portal.

Please dismiss any reports of the REC’s purported comments in Bayelsa; the method described above will be implemented as planned. This is why, as in previous elections, I will also recommend that everybody who has registered on the IReV portal check it within the next couple of hours to view the results of the mock election from all three parties.

Yakubu stated that the security authorities have promised to provide sufficient protection on election day.

And next Friday, there will be a high-level meeting in Abuja, chaired by myself and the National Security Adviser, in which all the security chiefs will be present to discuss the issue of security for the three states,” he said, adding, “Well, so far, so good in terms of assurance from the security agencies, as we can see; they’re even here for the mock election.”

When it comes to security measures and personnel deployment, we are, therefore, well prepared.
