The Kaduna State Security Trust Fund Bill 2024 has been ratified by Governor Uba Sani.

The State Security Trust Fund Law No. 22, 2018, according to a statement from Muhammad Lawal Shehu, the Governor’s chief press secretary, was repealed by the bill.

Funds would be used, the statement said, to guarantee the efficiency of state security services.

It added that the monies would also be used for Psychological Operations, which aims to win people over to the idea of winning their hearts and minds. Security personnel will be taught and retrained to respond to current and upcoming security threats.

It stated, “The State Security Trust Fund Board of Trustees was established by law as a board of trustees.”

It further said that the Board will be a body corporate with perpetual succession, a common seal, the ability to own and acquire any real estate, both movable and immovable, and the authority to suit in its corporate name.

“The Kaduna State Security Trust Fund Law 2024 will be driven by the private sector, in contrast to the State Security Trust Fund Law 2018, which was abolished.

“Private sector representatives will be heavily involved in the Fund’s management. Representatives from the private sector will oversee the Fund in coordination with other important players in the security industry. Additionally, the new Law is made to comply with international best practices. It serves as an example for other subnationals, the statement continued.

In addition, Governor Sani said that the Security Trust Fund will allow the state government to provide equipment and logistical support to local and federal security agencies, further demonstrating the state government’s commitment to eliminating terrorists, bandits, kidnappers, and other criminal elements who have been besieging communities in Kaduna State. The signing of this significant bill into law, according to Governor Sani, is a clear demonstration of that commitment.

According to the report, Sani made a strong plea for businesses and civic-minded people to generously donate to the Fund, stating that “we must join hands to uproot the evil elements destroying our local economies and the livelihoods of our people” and that “security is everybody’s business.”
