The letter of approval for the development of the Lekki airport has been given to Babajide Sanwo-Olu, governor of Lagos State.

The letter was given to the governor by the aviation minister, Hadi Sirika, on Tuesday at the Ehingbeti Lagos Economic Summit.

The airport, according to Sirika, will connect Nigeria to the rest of the world and make Lagos more accessible for global business collaborations.

Ope George, the governor’s special adviser on public-private partnerships (PPPs), stated a few days ago that the project is scheduled to start in 2023 and be built on 3,500 hectares of land.

During a media roundtable in Alausa, Ikeja, George revealed that the state government had requested and received federal approval for the construction of the new airport.

The project will be built on 3,500 hectares of land, with a master plan and aeronautical drawings already in place.

Studies are currently being conducted on strategy, funding, and other concerns, following which the project will be put on the market.

The airport, which is anticipated to serve at least five million people annually, would be built in collaboration with both domestic and international investors, he added.
