Minister of Power Adelabu says after private plane disaster, “I’m in good spirits

Concerns for the safety of Nigeria’s Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, were allayed on Saturday after a plane crashed on Friday near Ibadan, Oyo State’s Ladoke Akintola Airport.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Ibadan said, citing a source close to the Minister, that Adelabu seemed unfazed by the incident and in good spirits.

A private plane carrying the minister and many of his advisers reportedly made an emergency landing near the airport on Friday night.

According to the minister, this incidence is nothing to be alarmed about. An unnamed adviser to Adelabu explained that the incident was “relatively minor” and that the politician was taking it in stride.

According to the minister’s assistant, NAN, the minister was unconcerned about the event because no passengers were hurt.

Everyone who was on board the plane at the time of the incident got out safely, so there’s no need for alarm, the aide said.

The aircraft had departed Abuja with Ibadan as its destination, but landed approximately 50 metres short of the threshold and crashed into a ditch near to the runway.

Meanwhile, a statement released by the Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau (NSIB) on Saturday announced that an investigation into the incident’s cause has begun.

Please be advised that the Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau (NSIB) has begun investigating the cause of the accident involving a Flint Aero aircraft that occurred at the Samuel Ladoke Akintola Airport Ibadan.

“Our investigators are on site and further information will be provided as soon as possible,” NSIB stated in the statement made by its Director, Public Affairs and Consumer Protection, Dr James Odaudu.
