Mr. Ibu: Eleven facts about the late Nollywood performer John Okafor

John Okafor, well known as Mr. Ibu in Nollywood, passed away on Saturday following a protracted illness.

After Mr. Ibu became unwell in October 2023, doctors had to amputate one of his legs to keep him alive.

An infection of the ankle’s arteries that was not discovered in time necessitated the amputation.

The well-known Nollywood actor died of heart collapse after the amputation.

Eleven things about Mr. Ibu are listed below.

1. Ikechukwu John October 17, 1961, is Okafor’s birthday.

2. He was a comedian and actor from Nigeria.

3. The comedic actor first gained notoriety in 2004 when he starred alongside Osita Iheme in the film “Mr. Ibu.”

4. Okafor performed in over 200 Nollywood movies, such as Police Recruit, Mr. Ibu in London, Coffin Producers, Husband Suppliers, Mr. Ibu and His Son, and many more.

5. The veteran made his music debut on October 15, 2020, with the releases of the singles “This Girl” and “Do You Know.”

6. In 2012, Mr. Ibu demanded that homosexuality be eradicated from Nollywood, comparing it to a virus.

7. He received his diploma from the Enugu State Institute of Management and Technology.

8. He passed away at 62 years old.

9. In October 2023, Mr. Ibu became unwell and asked Nigerians for money so he could pay for his own medical care.

10. To ensure his survival, one of his legs was amputated in November 2023.

11. Mr. Ibu passed away due to a heart arrest on March 2, 2024.
