NCC updates NIN-SIM linkage for disconnected subscribers

Network service providers have reportedly banned all Subscriber Identification Modules without National Identity Numbers, according to the Nigerian Communications Commission.

Reuben Morka, a spokesman for the Commission, revealed this in an interview with Channels Television that twiscoloaded saw.

He claims that the subscribers that were disconnected weren’t sincere about connecting their NIN-SIM.

He pointed out that strengthening national planning and security is the policy’s main goal.

“Counting the precise number of phone lines that have been blocked will be challenging. However, assume that all those who failed to disclose their NIN to service providers have been blocked.

Many days ahead of schedule, the service providers began blocking subscribers.

Because the service providers are required to submit data about the blocked users, we plan to conduct an audit on that before the end of the week.

“The procedure involves assigning an identity to a SIM card. A digital identity is one advantage of registering a SIM card. The management of NIN by NIMC is a matter that the Nigerian government takes extremely seriously. Making ensuring we have those together is the goal. Recall that national planning and security are among the goals. comprises knowing your customer’s details as well,” he stated.

Recall that on February 28, when the NIN-SIM linkage expired, network providers said that they had disconnected 40 million users who lacked NIN.

The next step, according to the mobile network operators, is to prevent users with several SIM cards without NIN connectivity.

This development follows multiple extensions of the deadlines since Isa Pantami, the then-Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, launched the program in 2020.
