Osun State Government Ready to Back South West Rail Project

The Osun State government led by Ademola Adeleke has announced its eagerness to back the South West Rail Project in its entirety.

According to reports, the Development Agenda of Western Nigeria (DAWN Commission) is leading the charge on this initiative.

Sesan Oyedele, commissioner for transportation in Osun State, said this during a meeting of South West transport stakeholders in Ibadan.

At the DAWN Commission-hosted meeting, the Commissioner stated, “Osun State is prepared to work with other South-West States to put together a step-by-step road map that will improve rail transportation in the region.”

Oyedele emphasized the importance of satisfying the transportation needs of the region’s growing population.

Over the years, Nigeria’s railway system has been crucial in the country’s transport industry and economic development across the country’s many regions.

To keep up with the country’s rapid population growth, Nigeria’s transportation infrastructure must be significantly improved. By 2025, the country’s population is expected to have increased by about 100 million.

We need to get our act together and put up a railway development plan that will accommodate for the demands of our people in the future if we are to realize this objective,” the Commissioner said.
