Protests Prompt Osun CSOs to Call on Tinubu to Alleviate Nigerians’ Suffering

The Osun Civil Societies Coalition (OCSC) has urged the federal government of Nigeria, headed by President Bola Tinubu, to find solutions to alleviate the plight of the Nigerian people, rather than just handing out millions of Naira to governors as a band-aid.

The request was made by Waheed Lawal, the OCSC Chairman, at a civil society organization-organized demonstration on Thursday in response to the high cost of living and economic difficulties in the nation.

Protesters made their way from Osogbo’s Nelson Mandela Freedom Park to the city’s famous Olaiya-Overhead Bridge.

A banner reading “OSOGBO ENOUGH IS ENOUGH, President Bola Tinubu let the poor breathe” adorned the stage of the demonstration.

“President Bola Tinubu must find a lasting solution to ameliorate the sufferings of Nigerians,” Lawal added, “rather than giving millions of naira as palliatives to governors to address their hungry subjects.”

The OCSC Chairman was also critical of the Trades Union Congress’s (TUC) choice to withdraw from the planned two-day countrywide demonstration.

Lawal expressed concern at the TUC’s last-minute decision to withdraw from a planned protest that had been agreed upon by both unions.
