Public boarding schools will not see a rise in tuition – FCTA

There has been no mention of a fee increase at public boarding schools in the nation’s capital from the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA).

Doctor Danlami Hayyo, who is the Mandate Secretary of the Education Secretariat of the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA), provided the clarification during an interview with journalists in Abuja on Thursday.

The FCT Administration allegedly raised tuition for pupils attending public boarding schools in the FCT, according to several parents.

According to them, some parents have taken their children out of boarding schools and enrolled them in day schools since the tuition went up from N29,000 and N32,000 to N47,000.

“This is not true; this is not true,” Hayyo retorted in response to the remarks.

Because food prices are on the rise, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Mr. Nyesom Wike, has even given his approval to raise boarding schools’ meal allowances.

“Consider the scenario: he inquired as to the difference between the price of a bag of rice two years ago and its current price.”

Some parents have allegedly pulled their children out of public boarding schools in the FCT, a charge that the mandate secretary has also refuted.

Additionally, he mentioned that public boarding schools in the FCT are in a good position to offer parents a quality education at a price they can afford.

“I seriously doubt that anyone will pull their kids out of public school because of the food costs. It’s just unacceptable,” he remarked.

In addition, he emphasized that the top student in the 2023 West African Examination Council came from a public school, which he stated was a promising sign of the public school system’s educational quality.
