Residents of Otukpo discuss the more than hour-long attack on local banks

On Friday, multiple commercial banks in Otukpo town, Otukpo Local Government Area (LGA), Benue State, were robbed. New details about the crime have emerged.

City dwellers are shocked by the event.

“We haven’t seen one of these in Otukpo for a very long time,” a local told TWISCOLOADED on Friday night.

TWISCOLOADED has learned that four banks in Otukpo were hit by a group of daring robbers armed with assault rifles and other lethal weapons, killing a total of seven people (3 of whom were police officers).

According to a witness who requested anonymity, the thieves entered the banks at 4:30 p.m. in two Hilux cars and another smaller car and stayed there for approximately an hour before making their getaway.

He claimed that a councilman and police officers were slain when a robber opened fire in one of the banks.

Another eyewitness said the thieves first stormed the Otukpo Police Station, where they opened fire on the officers and took their weapons.

Residents, notably merchants, were observed fleeing the city, which serves as the ceremonial capital of the Idoma people.

SP Catherine Anene, who was contacted to confirm the event, said, “I have not been able to speak with the DPO or any of the officers there, but I am aware that there was an incident.”
