Rio Ferdinand, a former Manchester United defender, has threatened to fire manager Erik ten Hag if the squad doesn’t place in the top four this season. Sir Jim Ratcliffe, the club’s new minority owner, would take over.
With twelve games remaining in Ten Hag’s second season at Old Trafford, United is currently ranked sixth.
The Red Devils’ 2-1 loss to Fulham at Old Trafford last weekend has left them 16 points behind league leaders Liverpool.
Ferdinand responded to Vibe with FIVE when asked if Ten Hag will stay in his position should United fail to place in the top four, saying, “Given the structure behind him now it could be [a different story].” For him to remain, a lot of things need to line together.
“However, if they have a poor season finale, are losing games, and the locker room doesn’t appear to be a happy place to be— Furthermore, I would add that Jim Ratcliffe and his group don’t seem to hesitate to make important choices.
