Senate Minority Whip Nwokocha was fired by the Court of Appeals

The Court of Appeal in Lagos has dismissed Senator Darlington Nwokocha, the Senate Minority Whip.

As the Labour Party (LP) representative for Abia Central in the National Assembly, Nwokocha lost his job after the Appeal Court ruled that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate, Col. Austin Akobundu (ret.), was the legitimately elected senator in the senate elections held on February 25.

The electoral petition tribunal for the National Assembly, which had previously ruled in favor of Nwokocha, was overturned by the court.

The appeal filed by PDP candidate Anthony Agbazuere against LP’s Ginger Onwusibe was also thrown down by the Court of Appeal sitting in Lagos.

The court concurred with the tribunal’s decision that Agbazuere’s complaint lacked merit and confirmed Onwusibe’s victory in the National Assembly election held on February 25.

As a result, Onwusibe was validated as the lawfully elected representative of the federal district including Isiala Ngwa North and Isiala Ngwa South.

While Allwell Asiforo is leading the Abia chapter of the PDP, its candidate Akobundu has been congratulated on his victory in the Senate appeal case.

Former Abia Minister of State for Defense Akobundu hails from the Ikwuano Local Government Area.
