Shehu Sani supports arming FRSC officers

A former senator named Shehu Sani has publicly stated his support for allowing armed FRSC officers.

He thought, however, that only people who traveled on federal highways outside of the city should be armed and trained.

In light of the widespread security threats facing the country, the Federal Road Safety Corps has repeatedly stressed the importance of armed soldiers in doing their tasks.

While inaugurating 1,762 corps personnel who have just completed their four-month introduction training at the Nigerian Army Training Centre (NATRAC), Kontagora, Niger, Corps Marshal Dauda Biu made this call.

Shehu Zaki, a Deputy Corps Marshal, spoke on behalf of Biu, who said that the move would provide enough safety for the soldiers who were frequently attacked while on duty by some road users or suspected criminals who took advantage of the security issues in the country.

I support that Federal Road Safety Corps should bear arms,” the ex-Senator for Kaduna central district posted on X in response.

“But only for those working on the federal highways outside the cities,” he said.
