Super Eagles: Minister Tinubu authorized the settlement of the outstanding debt he inherited

President Bola Tinubu has shown his dedication by authorizing a sizeable sum to settle the outstanding debt he inherited from the Super Eagles players, according to Senator John Owan Enoh, Minister of Sports Development.

Enoh also credited the combined efforts and tenacity of all Nigerian football stakeholders for the country’s excellent performance in the 2023 African Cup of Nations (AFCON), which was held in Côte d’Ivoire.

To put Nigerian football back where it belongs on the continent and around the world, he did stress that the Ministry and the Nigerian Football Federation, or NFF, still have a lot of work ahead of them.

In a recent discussion with the media, Enoh emphasized the significance of growing local football, with a special emphasis on improving the Nigerian league.

He emphasized that a key element in the overall growth of sports is the requirement for more funding.

Diana-Mary Nsan, S.A. Media revealed this to the Honorable Minister of Sports Development on Saturday.

“First, the country’s leadership showed commitment by authorizing a sizeable amount for the payment of outstanding debt he inherited to the members of the National Team,” Enoh stated. “This led to the success we saw at the 2023 AFCON.”

That was my first clue that everything at the AFCON was going to go well. The NFF, the efforts of the Ministry, and the backing of Nigerians were only a few of the numerous elements that contributed to our success in the AFCON.

According to him, the country’s next moves would be to build on the excitement around the AFCON and guarantee qualifying for both the 2025 AFCON and the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

“We have the task of making it to both the 2026 World Cup and the upcoming AFCON, but I believe we also need to regroup and resolve other matters. For instance, we want to make sure that our coaching department is in order and go back to the era in our sports’ past where players from other countries compete with local players for jerseys. That entails examining our local football team internally to raise its technical and competitive standards, including coaching,” he stated.
