Cole Palmer, a midfielder for Chelsea, has spoken publicly about his pre-transfer discussion with Pep Guardiola, manager of Manchester City.
Palmer transferred for £42.5 million from the Premier League winners during the summer.
The 21-year-old discussed Guardiola’s ultimatum with Mail Sport in an interview.
At first, I was reluctant to depart. Due to my lack of playing time [in the previous season], I stated that I would go on loan and play for a year to prepare myself for more playing time with the first team.
Nevertheless, Pep threatened that I would be sold if I stayed or went, and I must admit that I was sold.
“When I first asked why they wouldn’t let me go on loan, they weren’t sure, but after I expressed my desire to go to Chelsea, I’m glad things worked out the way they did,” Palmer explained.
