President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has been urged by the Social Democratic Party (SDP) to consult with Alhaji Atiku Abubakar and Mr. Peter Obi in order to speed up the process of nation-building.
In an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Friday in Lagos following the Supreme Court verdict on Thursday, Mr Femi Olaniyi, the South-West Zonal Secretary of SDP, offered the advise.
Olaniyi said that Tinubu’s opponents needed to give him ideas if he was going to give the Nigerian people hope.
After expressing his congratulations to Tinubu, he went on to say that with the right advice, the Nigeria of everyone’s aspirations might become a reality.
No more excuses; the time for that is passed. Tinubu should open up to the ideas of all genuine candidates for the presidency of the country.
Since both Atiku Abubakar of the PDP and Mr. Peter Obi of the LP desired to reign because of the suffering masses and to reshape the country, he suggested that the president consult with them for guidance and ideas.
However, in the interest of the nation, Olaniyi asked Atiku and Obi to be prepared to lend Tinubu ideas that would make Nigeria competitive well in the comity of nations.
As responsible leaders and citizens, we must put politics aside for the time being. The election is over, and the highest court has rendered its decision.
For the sake of the future of this country, all of the candidates for president should join forces and serve in this government.
“It is not compulsory for them to be directly part of Tinubu’s government, but with ideas and advice, a new story can be written of Nigeria soon,” he stated.
He also called on everyone to stop thinking of Nigeria’s development as President Tinubu’s personal project and start treating it as their own.
His view is that the Supreme Court’s decision has settled all open questions about government and policy.
Now that Tinubu has a clear path to reelection, he should get the economy back on track and bring inflation down.
It’s a huge weight off of Tinubu’s shoulders to be able to concentrate solely on leadership and nation-building. He then advised the president to “buckle up” in their current predicament.
On Thursday, the Supreme Court rejected challenges to Tinubu’s election victory filed by Peoples Democratic Party candidate Alhaji Atiku Abubakar and Labour Party candidate Mr Peter Obi.
Justice John Okoro’s lead verdict for the Supreme Court upheld Tinubu’s 2023 election as president of Nigeria. (NAN)
