On Wednesday night, Owo, the rural residence of the late Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, the former governor of Ondo State, had a solemn atmosphere and mixed feelings when the deceased’s body arrived in the historic town.

As a show of honor and respect for their deceased brilliant son, the community’s members assembled in large numbers at the Emure junction to receive the late Akeredolu’s remains.

The town welcomed the late governor with a united front of sadness, led by two Owo members of the State House of Assembly, Hon. Oluwole Emmanuel Ogunmolasuyi and Hon. Morenike Rennykay Witherspoon, as well as other colleagues.

Students from Imade College and St. Louis Grammar School, among other secondary schools in the community, lined the highways as the caravan bringing the late Akeredolu’s remains entered Owo town.

The students honored the late governor by standing at key points and waving Nigerian flags.

The late governor’s body was met at Mobile Junction in Ijebu-Owo by delegates from the palace of Oba Kofoworola Oladoyinbo Ojomo, the Olijebu of Ijebu-Owo.

A vast audience tried to get a sight of the casket containing the late governor’s bones, and tears were abundant.

The residents of Owo turned out in force, lined the main thoroughfares of the town to take part in the customary Ajabue procession, and eagerly awaited the arrival of the late Akeredolu’s body, in spite of previous events held in Akure, the state capital.

The wake, candlelight procession, and singing service are all part of tomorrow, Thursday, February 22, 2024, as part of the funeral plans.

After a protracted fight with prostate cancer, Akeredolu passed away in December 2023.
