You Must Be A Winner In Six Months! – Benitez warns Graham Potter, manager of Chelsea

Rafa Benitez, the former manager of Everton, Real Madrid, and Liverpool, has issued a warning to Graham Potter, the current manager of Chelsea.

Potter was named Chelsea’s next head coach after Thomas Tuchel was fired a few weeks ago.

However, the former Brighton manager was unable to win his opening Champions League game as he played Red Bull Salzburg to a 1-1 draw.

Potter was brought up when Benitez, Chelsea’s interim manager in 2012–13, was questioned.

He said to Sky Sports:

“He performed admirably [at Brighton].

“You can create something when they give you time and you have good ideas, therefore the environment was wonderful for him.

“Now that Chelsea is under pressure, he will feel it. I really really like him, therefore I hope he succeeds.

But he must triumph. You can no longer play nice football for six months and come up empty-handed.

“He needs to compete for awards and be among the top four. It adds more weight. The supporters will be picky.

“To compete against Manchester City, Liverpool, Manchester United, Arsenal, and Tottenham, you must win.

“It will require more of him. He is knowledgeable, but can he succeed at Chelsea? We’ll find out in the future.
