Prior to noon on Tuesday, Pope Francis was briefly brought to the hospital for some “clinical examinations,” according to a statement from the Holy See’s Matteo Bruni.

While the pontiff spent a few hours at the Gemelli Clinic, the Vatican withheld all details regarding the tests’ nature or intent.

He was freed following what the local media described as pre-arranged medical examinations, according to the reports.

Due to bronchitis, the head of the Catholic Church spent the last few days of March in the hospital.

In time for the Holy Week and Easter weekend ceremonies, Pope made his way back to the Vatican.

The pope’s fever forced him to cancel a day of scheduled audiences and meetings at the end of May.
