As a plea to political parties, one group is saying, “Please don’t kill women

Women’s Effect Initiative International (WEII) is a non-governmental organization that has issued a call to action to all political parties in the Kogi State Governorship Election on November 11 to tell their men to stop killing women.

Arewa Women’s Effect Initiative International Director-General Abiola Abimbola made the appeal on Thursday while speaking to press in Lokoja.

She voiced concern over the weekend murder of a woman in Kotonkarfe.

As Abimbola put it, “the State cannot continue to lose the lives of women in the name of election.” She then asked the political parties to embrace peace.

It’s sad to see so many promising young women sacrificed for the sake of politics.

We are using this forum to voice our shock and sadness at the murder of a woman last weekend in Kotonkarfe. We want an end to the bloodshed in our communities once more.

“There is no point in women following the men into politics if our lives and security are not guaranteed,” one woman said.

We lost Salome Abu this year. She was murdered, and nothing has been done about it so yet.

In most elections, female voters outnumber male voters. Do not discourage them from casting their ballots. Let our ladies vote in the upcoming Kogi governorship election.

She warned the people of the State that “if we kill ourselves because of somebody’s interest, they may get there and not recognize you” if they don’t treat each other as brothers and sisters.

Abimbola also advised the people of Kogi State to stop political violence and treat each other like family.

Before, during, and after the governorship race, she pleaded for the protection of women and children from political and other types of violence from all levels of government and security forces.
