Equipment used in radiology was unaffected by the fire, according to IMSUTH

According to the hospital’s administration, no equipment was damaged in the fire that broke out in the radiology block of Imo State University Teaching Hospital, Orlu.

The medical facility added that if it weren’t for the prompt action of security officers on duty and employees who live in the neighborhood where the hospital is located, who disregarded the Monday sit-at-home order, the fire outbreak, which hit the ICT unit, would have caused more chaos.

The hospital’s public relations officer, Mrs. Judith Richards-Chukwunyere in Orlu, Imo State, revealed this in a statement.

“The management of Imo State University Teaching Hospital has been made aware of a scandalous and malicious article regarding the recent fire incident that occurred on the institution’s premises on Monday, February 5, 2024,” the statement states.

In fact, the ICT Unit’s fire destroyed a few pieces of equipment, primarily desktop computers. The majority of the office equipment in this unit was retrieved by the institution’s security personnel.

Because Orlu and its surroundings are unstable, hospital employees who live outside of Orlu LGA avoid going to the hospital on Mondays due to sit-at-home policies, fearing for their lives.

“To help with their subjects, Dr. Ifeanyi Nwamba, the Chief Medical Director, invited the Umuna Igwe and the Imo State security outfit coordinator in Orlu.

Additionally, the Chief Medical Director gave the Head of the Works department the order to dispatch water trucks to put out the fire.

The investigation into what caused the fire to start is still underway, but smokers of Indian hemp in the bushes should be aware of this.

“In light of this, we sincerely request that the leaders of the communities surrounding the hospital step up security measures in their areas to prevent similar incidents in the future.”
