Osun State’s governor, Ademola Adeleke, has said that he hopes to one day revamp the state’s economy from a reliance on the public sector to one that is more agro-industrial and creative-industry oriented.

In addition, he believed that Osun’s diversification into a cargo/commercial airport would help the state’s economy become more export-oriented and attract tourists from around the world, thanks to the Yoruba cultural values it houses.

During his New Year’s address in Osogbo on January 1, 2024, he made this fact public.

To that aim, Governor Adeleke has announced that the newly approved budget for 2024 would include strategies and programs for rehabilitation and rebuilding.

He further revealed that his administration has developed a comprehensive strategy for governance by reiterating his dedication to the ideas underlying the five-point plan.

As for his five-point program, he emphasized his belief in open government, responsive leadership, localization, openness and accountability, and listening to the hopes and dreams of the people.

He said that his administration has accomplished a lot in the past year despite having to cut back on many perks and endure budget cuts.

The approval procedure, not security votes, covers my official spending as governor, ensuring accountability and transparency.

Because former government officials made off with official vehicles, our current administration is having a hard time acquiring new ones for the state cabinet. Since we nominated our cabinet and other key officials to office, they have been using their personal cars. On a related note, we have not yet finished renovating the official quarters that were vandalized by officials from past administrations. He made the statement while stating that many of our senior officials continue to work out of their homes.

Our group is resolute in its commitment to fulfill its electoral pledges notwithstanding the aforementioned disadvantage. With thankfulness in my heart, I can say that we have continued to listen to and act upon the desires of our people. We are content with our high approval ratings and the favorable feedback we receive.

“More work is required of us. In our unwavering commitment to fighting corruption, being transparent, holding those in power accountable, and upholding due process, we are ready to make adjustments as needed. I repeat: the rule of law and reverence for God are the bedrock upon which our administration rests.

He thanked President Bola Tinubu for his dogged pursuit of economic recovery while simultaneously reminding the people of the severe economic difficulties that Osun and other federation states are facing.

Also, he made it clear that the federal government and development partners’ intervention funds were being used appropriately for their intended goals.

To better our beloved state, our administration has lofty goals. To unite human and physical growth, we want to close the gap in development. We are racing against the clock to increase our human and financial capital. You can do it, my people. Yes, it is possible.

We shall return our attention in the new year to easing the present economic crisis and strengthening the state’s economic foundation. “As we have shown in the last year, both goals are achievable,” he stated.
