Last-minute appointments made by ex-Gov. Simon Lalong into the state’s civil service have been suspended by Plateau State Governor Caleb Mutfwang.

In Jos on Thursday, Mutfwang’s media representative, Mr. Gyang Bere, said that the Governor had ordered the suspension of the appointments because they constituted a “flagrant abuse of Public Service Rules.”

The Governor’s decree further said that the appointments were irregular, arbitrary, and contrary to due process.

“All appointments to the state’s civil service made beginning on October 1, 2022, are now stopped with effect as of the same day and are subject to reconsideration in accordance with due procedure.

“All those who have retired but have not yet handed over any government property in their possession and vacated the offices promptly, whether due to an extension or contract appointment.

“All civil officials who are eligible for retirement but have not yet submitted their notices or letters of retirement should do so right away and start the retirement process.

The Governor commanded that “all civil servants and or persons appointed Permanent Secretaries from January 2023 to the present should revert to their previous positions immediately.”

He gave the assurance that steps would be made in due course to improve and develop a civil service focused on results.
