Joe Cole, a former Chelsea player, has selected Jude Bellingham of Borussia Dortmund as the game’s top performer from Friday’s 1-0 Nations League loss to Italy by England.
Cole added that England’s performance against Italy was “awful” and insisted that Bellingham was the only player who could give the Three Lions any reason for optimism.
Giacomo Raspadori’s second-half goal against Italy at San Siro resulted in a defeat for Gareth Southgate’s team.
We need to be braver, Cole told Channel 4, because England consistently has the same issue.
These guys have the talent; we’ve seen it week in and week out; they’re top-tier athletes. In challenging situations, puff up your chest, pull your shoulders back, and move to pick up the ball.
Drive through the traffic jams. Jude Bellingham, a 19-year-old, was our best player tonight, which is unacceptable given the talent we possess and the quality of our team.
On Monday, England will play Germany in its second Nations League match.
