The president, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (ret. ), has received a letter from King Charles III of England expressing his condolences for the “devastating floods” that have affected the majority of the nation’s states.

King Charles III expressed his “great sadness” for the lives lost in the disaster in the open letter he signed on Friday.

Then, King Charles III expressed his sympathy for the flood victims and said that the UK “stands in solidarity” with the nation.

The letter, which our correspondent mentioned, stated:

The Honorable Dear Mr. President, I wanted to let you know how heartbroken my wife and I are to learn of the many individuals who have lost loved ones and whose lives have been so drastically disrupted as a result of the tragic floods that have swept across Nigeria.

“We have the fondest memories of our trips to Nigeria and the friendliness of the people we encountered.

“However insufficient this may seem in such awful circumstances, our thoughts are with all those who have suffered so much, and we send our sincere sympathies to all who are supporting the recovery efforts.

“I am aware that Nigeria is supported by the United Kingdom as you deal with these really tragic occurrences.”
