Nasarawa State Electoral Commission maintains the date of 2024 for local government elections

The Independent Electoral Commission of Nasarawa State (NASIEC) has stated once again that the local elections slated for August 31, 2024 would take place as planned.

Friday, during an appearance before the Nasarawa State House of Assembly’s committee on NASIEC, Multilateral and Community Development to evaluate its 2023 budget, NASIEC Chairman Barrister Ayuba Usman Wandai made the following announcement.

According to Wandai’s plan, party primaries will be held in January and February of 2024, with the general election taking place on August 31, 2024.

Next year, on August 31st, 2024, we will hold elections for the local government. For us at NASEIC, the date is sacred since it is the result of a legal process.

The head of NASEIC said that primaries for all parties would be held in January and February of 2024.

The current group of elected politicians in the local government, he added, would be termed out on Monday, October 7, 2024. Thus, new elections should be held to bring in new representatives to the city council.

Chairman Wandai thanked the State House of Assembly for its unwavering support, saying it had been instrumental in ensuring the smooth organization and implementation of NASIEC events.

In addition, he lauded Governor Abdullahi Sule for his efforts to spread democracy throughout the state.
