In the general election of 2023, Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Labour Party, expressed his sorrow for the death of seasoned Nollywood actor John Okafor, well known as Mr. Ibu.

Following a protracted struggle with a disease, Mr. Ibu passed away on Saturday.

Peter Obi expressed on his X page how much the entertainment business and Nigeria had lost with Mr. Ibu’s passing.

“Many individuals alerted me to the passing of seasoned Nollywood actor John Okafor, well known as Mr. Ibu, through my comments area, just after I tweeted my condolences on the passing of Nollywood actor Sisi Quadri.

“I’m deeply saddened by his passing. He was a legendary comic actor who made people laugh, smile, and radiate delight. We all prayed for a speedy recovery and thought he would recover fully when he tragically fell ill.

“The country, as well as the entertainment industry, is deeply saddened by his passing. In addition to brightening the nation’s spirits, musicians play a vital role in assisting all of us in navigating life’s difficult moments.

“On behalf of my family, I offer my condolences to his grieving family, the Nollywood community as a whole, and the performers Guild of Nigeria, who recently lost two great performers in a matter of days. Although we are saddened by his passing, we find solace in the priceless moments of happiness and joy he left behind.

“May the God who brought him home grant him eternal rest and give his family and all of us who are grieving the strength to endure the painful loss of something irreplaceable.” Mr. Ibu, rest in peace! Written by Obi.
