As the Supreme Court begins hearing the Presidential Election Appeal from February 25, 2023, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has expressed confidence that the Apex Court will deliver justice in the matter based on the provisions of the law, the body of evidence, the circumstances, and the facts presented before it.
The country’s main opposition party, in a statement signed by its National Publicity Secretary Debo Ologunagba, claimed that the issues surrounding the 2023 presidential election—including the alleged violation of rules and laws, as well as the brazen manipulations and falsifications in perversion of the electoral process—have put democracy in danger.
The party claims that Nigerians and people around the world are waiting for the Supreme Court to rule on the matter in the hopes that it will apply the law, specifically the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999 (as amended), the Electoral Act of 2022, and the Guidelines and Regulations of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in doing so.
According to the PDP, the Supreme Court has an opportunity to prove beyond a reasonable doubt that the Judiciary truly is the final hope of the common man by ruling on this case.
Therefore, “Nigerians are optimistic in hoping that the Supreme Court will dispense substantial Justice according to law and fact in the Appeal,” the party declared.
