The suspect, who was unveiled to the media on Tuesday, claimed to have taken the girl into a church, where he raped her and killed her by strangling her.
The suspect said that his mother worked as a cleaner at the church where the crime was committed. He said that before attacking his victim, he had waited for her to arrive at her church and asked her to assist him in carrying some chairs.
I left the office on September 17, 2022, about 1 p.m. because there was no work that day.
We had just fallen asleep at the workplace when I asked permission to go and relieve myself. My boss agreed and advised me to return right away.
“Because my mother cleans the church and attended services, I took the key to our church when I arrived home.
When Ifeoluwa would pass past our church on her route to her church, I packed all of the seats in the building together.
“When she eventually went, I requested her to help me transport some of the piled chairs.
I pulled a knife out of my pocket and told her not to yell. I meant to attack her to get her phone, but she dragged the knife along with her, causing it to drop. As she was trying to flee, she also tripped and banged her head on the ground.
“I snatched her phone and asked her for the password to her phone, but she gave me the wrong password. When I realized the password was incorrect, I strangled her.”
Adebowale Williams, the state’s police commissioner, told PUNCH that his officers stationed at the Iyana-Offa Divisional Police Headquarters had been informed of Ifeoluwa, a 17-year-old girl who had reportedly departed for church at around 1600 hours but had not yet returned home.
The CP stated, “A search party was promptly created to ascertain the circumstances behind her abduction.
While this was occurring, a call was placed to the deceased’s parents by an unidentified caller making it abundantly plain that the dead had been taken.”
The body was discovered “beside a Bible School at Olodo Area, with a bloodied genitalia and traces of struggling that indicated that she might have been manhandled before her eventual untimely death,” according to preliminary investigation, he said.
He stated that even though the matter had been given to the State Criminal Probe Department, the investigation was still ongoing.
