Vice President Kashim Shettima has said that President Bola Tinubu’s administration is up against the formidable task of resolving Nigeria’s issues.
According to Shettima, the current administration has no intention of misleading Nigerians or making life worse for its people.
This came as he gave the assurance that the nation’s current economic problems would soon be resolved.
He delivered a speech yesterday in Lagos at the University of Lagos Muslim Alumni, or UMA, 29th pre-Ramadan lecture. The talk’s theme was “Economic Reforms for Nigeria: Challenges and Prospects for the Future.”
In the person of Dr. Hakeem Baba-Ahmed, his Special Advisor on Political Matters, the Vice President asked Nigerians to respond to the current circumstances “in a responsible and mature manner.”
“But, my brothers and sisters, we are unable to go in the same direction that has led us to this point,” he uttered. This is a country that needs to be fixed, and giving up on it is not an option. All of our options are tough and demanding, and they are unquestionably more detrimental to the underprivileged. We would have embraced simpler and more dependable options in place of the policies we have chosen.
“It is not the intention of our administration to make life harder for Nigerians.” We also don’t want to fool other people into thinking that the desired result and the direction shift can be attained without suffering or making any sacrifices.
We also recognize that the issues we are facing are a collection of connected Nigerian issues, and any answers we look for must be truly grounded in the Nigerian context—rather than in the experiences of others or the whims of special interest groups that are shielded from the repercussions of mistakes or miscalculations.
“We anticipate that Nigerians would respond to our situation with maturity and responsibility. We also practice a strong religious faith and think that prayers and faith have great power.
