Commissioners, permanent secretaries, and political appointees serving on the executive council in Niger State have been invited to an orientation retreat by the state government.

Aiming to convert the region into a world-class sub-national government, the retreat was organized under the theme of “Panacea for Sustainable Development of Niger State.” It is part of the state’s New Niger Agenda.

The administration’s dedication to affecting and growing the state, generating employment opportunities, and infrastructural development was emphasized by Deputy Governor Yakubu Garba, who was representing Governor Muhammed Umaru Bago.

In line with the administration’s objective of creating an environmentally conscious subnational entity, Garba noted that the induction helps to mold Niger State’s future.

“Our goal at the induction is to create a lasting legacy and ensure prosperity for generations to come,” he declared.

According to Alhaji Abubakar Usman Gawu, the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), the New Niger Agenda puts the state in a position to become one of the top ten subnational governments in Nigeria. Gawu asked the executive council members to completely embrace the agenda.

Professor Muhammed Kuta Yahaya, the Retreat’s Lead Resource Person, emphasized the strategic value of involving political appointees, members of the State Executive Council, and permanent secretaries in leadership and governance training. He pointed out that GUD and good governance are central to Governor Muhammed Umaru Bago’s vision.

Abubakar Salisu, head of service in Niger state, suggested reviving the Strategic Operation Office during the retreat as a means to improve government efficiency.

In order to help the administration carry out its duties successfully, he urged the participants to give thorough advice.

The retreat, which is set to take place from January 7th to January 13th, 2024, will mostly consist of technical and brainstorming sessions.
