The day to you! The headlines from today’s Nigerian newspapers are as follows.

1. On Wednesday, a high court in Rivers State, located in the city of Isiokpo, issued a temporary restraining order prohibiting the Rivers State House of Assembly from moving forward with its plans to impeach Governor Siminalayi Fubara. House Speaker Martin Amaewhule, Deputy Speaker Dumle Mao, House Clerk Simeon Chibuzor-Amadi, and State Chief Judge Chibuzor-Amadi were all placed under recusal by the court.

The Nigerian Population Commission has been tasked with spending the N800bn allocated by the Federal Government for the 2023 Population and Housing Census. The House of Representatives has decided to investigate the agency’s spending. Mr. Dominic Okafor, a member from the Aguta Federal Constituency in Anambra State, introduced the motion that ultimately led to this result.

3. The House of Representatives, on Wednesday, issued a 72-hour ultimatum to the Accountant General of the Federation, Mrs Oluwatoyin Madein, to submit a detailed report on the use of the N100bn COVID-19 intervention funds approved and released by the government of former President Muhammadu Buhari to ministries, departments and agencies between 2020 and 2022.

In the previous three weeks, at least 20 okada riders, commercial motorcyclists, have been robbed and killed across the state, according to information released by the Ondo State Security Network, popularly known as Amotekun Corps, on Wednesday. On Wednesday, 11 people were detained for various crimes, and during their march, state corps commander Akogun Adetunji Adeleye made this announcement.

Former Rivers State governor Nyesom Wike was appointed by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to serve as minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) on Wednesday, and the Peoples Democratic Party Governors Forum has expressed its gratitude to Tinubu for this appointment. In order to finance the federal government’s operations from 2022 to 2024, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has submitted a proposal to the Senate to borrow $7.8 billion and €100 million. Senate President Godswill Akpabio read a letter from the president making the request during the Senate’s regular session.

Ten, Gabriel Suswam’s election as senator representing Nigeria’s North East constituency was overturned by the Court of Appeal in Abuja. The three-judge panel of the appellate court reached a unanimous ruling that Suswam was not the lawful election victor.
